I think a lot of people will have a lot of fun with this game.But I want to specifically adress HEMA practitioner or enthausiasts.This game might not be what you want it to be. The physics are realistic in a sence that you have to hit straight and have your blade roughly aligned. But there is no feedback on the quality of your cut. either you did it right or you did it wrong. This is especially noticable with tatami cutting. Since the purpose of cutting the rolls is to get feedback on how stable your swing is and how well aligned your sword. So a binary option is not going to give you that.The physic simulation is also just not up for the job. There seem too much lag and a little wiggle with the sword. You can cleary see this in the settings, where you see the handle through the blade, and the handle is tracked better than the sword. Also every now and then, the sword just glitches through.Since the controllers have less weight to them and the balance is in the center of the hand, there is a lot of rotational movement when swinging, that wouldn't be there irl. This is of course expectable but it would be awesome if the game had some stabilization build in to emulate momentum.Also, since the game has only katana's I really missed my back swings, because of course kantana's have only one edge. This really limited the speed en elegance i'm used to, especially with the fruit challenges.Also the game would have greatly benefitted from a free tatami roll cut mode. having you practice and play around with multiple cuts with different move types, or chainging movements together.Overall it's an OK game, just leaves a lot to be desired if this is what you were waiting for.. Best katana simulator for now. Totaly realistic with 3d printed katana handle.. As someone who has been fascinated with Katanas and swords in general growing up, this game is a dream come true (I'm 35 btw). Decent workout as well. I could sit in my room chopping those wooden posts working on my "form" all day long. So much fun honing my ninja skills. Thanks for this game!. I got this game hoping for a more in-depth "fruit ninja" experience. It does many things right, unlike fruit ninja you need to have edge control of the weapon and follow through with your strike much like a real sword. This is great, however, there is a delay between the way you turn the blade and the game registering it has been turned. In short there is latency. This causes frustration since you need to angle the weapon for the strike you require in advance of making the strike. In a game that requires fast reflexes and quick turns of the sword to hit the fruit that you missed on the first pass, latency is unforgivable and to a degree makes the game unplayable.TL:DR It is good, the ideas are there but due to latency and edge control I cannot recommend.. I've had my casual fun with Fruit Ninja and wanted something more realistic and stumbled on Katana X.I've never done tameshigiri practice in real life but this tatami challenge is fantastic! It forces you to concentrate on your form. In Fruit Ninja you can be quite sloppy but player in Katana X needs higher precision.The fruit challenge is much much harder than Fruit Ninja. I do wish there was one more challenge something like bamboo that was in between the fruit and tatami, maybe bamboo.One downside- sword behaves glitchy on the Vive esp. when you miss your target during tatami practice. When the sword is stuck-it can flicker like crazy.. Slice and dice home slice. Pros: Decent physicsaccurate sword handling and slicing4 enviornmentscool leader boardsCons:Serious waste of fruitswater gfx seem irrationally expensive on the hardware in two enviornments. Put that on the lowest (1080 ti for me) and super sample it higher instead.
